Supporting you

As parents, we know how difficult it can be to get the help you need and we will always try to find the right help for you, whether it’s by giving advice, introducing you to other parents in similar situations, helping you to get the right services, working with you and your children’s school to get the best for your child or where we can’t help, signposting you to people/departments that SHOULD be able to help.

Early help

We can bring together various agency workers who will support the whole of your family to try to make things improve for everyone. You may know some of these workers already. Early Help could include support with parenting, employment, anti-social behaviour, school attendance and emotional well-being.

You might want Early Help for a wide number of reasons. It may be that you want help to change things for your family before a problem becomes more serious or you might want help to stop a problem before it even starts.

Support in education

Many parents/carers have concerns about their child’s education. Every child has the right to mainstream education unless it is proved that their needs outweigh what a mainstream school can reasonably provide.

Our goal is to promote great opportunities for those in need. With access to the right resources, people can become empowered to ensure their child gets the best support in mainstream school.

The SEN support plan is the plan that the early years setting, school or local college will use to ensure a child or young person’s needs are met (where the longer term EHCP is not required).

An Education, Health and Care Plan. It is a legal document that outlines a child or young person’s special educational, health and social care needs. The Plan will detail the extra help that the child/young person will receive in order to fulfil their potential and achieve what they want at school.

It is a daunting time for any parent.  Writing your child’s views can be difficult.  Aspirations, looking at the ‘plan’ from a different view point, feeling afraid to be as powerful a parent you can be. We will help you find the right techniques going forward, focus on person-centred care, review your final draft and make sure nothing is missing. You will remain in control at all times.

SEN education – See more details on our Training & Awareness page.

Children with SEN need to have a clear care plan to enable them to engage and flourish at school as all children should be able to do.

Enabling parents to seize the opportunity to have a say in their child’s education and to ensure the school takes a positive approach is at our very core.

We will use ‘signposting’ when necessary, promoting co-production with multi agencies. Being aware when it starts to fail, not getting the correct educational support, letter writing and format, attending meetings (if required), jargon busting and advice to help with the best steps forward.

DLA can be a minefield for our parents. Many think they don’t deserve it, ‘it’s just my kids’. It is never ‘just my kids’ and you are never ‘just a mum or dad’.  Additional financial support is crucial to be able to help your children access supported activities in the community.  DLA is for children who need more help with daily living or with mobility (getting around) than other children of the same age.
